POLICY FOR SCHOLARSHIP & FREESHIP
CONCEPT DEFINITION:
The college, Higher and Technical Institute, Mizoram (HATIM), is a private church-run college under the aegis of the Baptist Church of Mizoram (BCM), Serkawn Lunglei affiliated to the Central University – Mizoram University. The institution follows the rules and regulations for offering government scholarships to all students. Apart from this, the institution provides scholarships and freeships to its students.
The learners from the college come from different backgrounds and socio-economic strata. The learner's academic achievements must be recognized to empower and enable the students to be achievers. One of the main reasons in the southern part of Mizoram for discontinuation of education or non-enrolment in an Undergraduate Program is the weak economic background of the student.
The institution follows the schema of inclusivity and offers scholarships and freeships to its students so that education is accessed by all. As for the institution, it is a means of contributing back to the community and not limiting education due to lack of income. The policy document act as an outline for the effective distribution of scholarship and freeships to deserving students with transparency.
OBJECTIVE OF THE POLICY:
- The primary objective of this document is to provide general uniform guidelines for the establishment and disbursal of scholarships and freeships.
- To assist students in applying for scholarships at the Central, State and Institutional level
- Government scholarships are offered to students of this college through the state government. So, the college aims to ensure the effective implementation of Govt. scholarships to all eligible students.
- To provide college level scholarship/concession to students.
The institution has a Scholarship Committee constituted by the Office of the Principal and the Heads of all Departments. Committee scrutinizes the documents for the various scholarship schemes and helps aspirants of Government scholarships with application process.
The Scholarship Committee also helps students to receive Freeships and Fee concessions, which the institution offers.
The promising students who lack the resources to excel are identified by the scholarship committee constituted by the office of the Principal. The meeting of the committee is chaired by the Principal and convened by the Scholarship Coordinator. Financial assistance to be provided is also decided by the Scholarship Committee in its meeting.
SCOPE OF THE POLICY:
The policy applies, in general, to the students of the institution by extending scholarship assistance to fill the financial gap. This support instills a sense of belonging and motivates the students in their learning process.
POLICY STATEMENT
INSTITUTE SCHOLARSHIP: The Institute Scholarship intends to provide financial assistance or freeships to students from economically disadvantaged locations or statuses.
Conditions for Scholarship
(i) Scholarships will be awarded to students with little or no financial support to pursue their studies during the programme.
(ii) Students should be regular in attendance for which the student must maintain an attendance of 90% and above every month unless due to medical reasons
(iii) The student's academic achievement in each semester must be above the class average, demonstrating the student's dedication and readiness to study and progress.
(iv) If financially aided, the amount of the scholarship shall be decided by the concerned authority depending on the student's requirement or on need basis.
(v) The school/institute will certify the claim of the student of being an outstation student not residing in the hostel of the school/institute concerned based on the permanent address and parents' address, if the student is either a day scholar or out of station student.
(vi) If a student violates any institute discipline or any other terms and conditions of the scholarship, the scholarship may be suspended or canceled
(vii) If a student is found to have obtained a scholarship by false statement, his/her scholarship will be cancelled forthwith and the amount of the scholarship paid will be recovered by the concerned Authority.
(viii) Scholarship will not be given to more than one student from a family
(ix) The scheme will be evaluated at regular intervals by the designated concerned Authority for the continuation of the scheme. If any discrepancies are found out, the scholarship shall be stopped immediately.
FREESHIPS:
Freeships of different nature may be given to a student on different criteria that the institution has which are defined as under:
2.1 CONCESSION:
Concession may be given to deserving student on the basis of the following condition laid down by the institution and parent body the Baptist Church of Mizoram (BCM), Serkawn.
Concession Type 1:
(i) A student whose parents are employees of the parent organization, the BCM-Serkawn, will receive a 25% Concession of Fees payment.
(ii) Students whose parents are HATIM employees are eligible for a 50% reduction in fees.
For the above two criteria, the student must provide a valid employment certification of their parents from the Parent Society – Baptist Church of Mizoram.
Concession Type 2:
A student shall be given a concession on fees payment on the basis of the student requirement if it fulfils the following condition, even if the students’ performance is below class average.
(i) A confirmation letter from the Village Council / Local Council that the students belong to clearly stating the status of the family as either non-earning or below the poverty line asper the Government outline.
(ii) Depending on the nature of the student’s financial background, the student may be given the following concession:
(a) Exemption of Hostel Accommodation Fess (for hostellers only)
(b) Exemption of Tuition Fees (Both for Day scholar and Hosteller)
(c) Either (a) or (b), or both depending on the nature and need of the student.
If a student is found to have obtained a scholarship by false statement, his/her scholarship will be cancelled forthwith and the amount of the scholarship paid will be recovered by the concerned Authority.
Concession Type 3:
Free Admission shall be given to deserving and promising student who have secured 75% and above (Distinction) in their intermediary Final Exams, i.e., 10+2 Final Examination Result.
2.2 INCENTIVES:
Awards and financial rewards are offered to students as incentives to promote personal growth and development and to motivate them to achieve better in their academics.
Incentive Type 1: An incentive of ₹ 1000 shall be given to students whose Semester Grade Point Average (SGPA) is 8.5 and above.
Incentive Type 2: Incentive Type 2 describes the awards and cash rewards given to student when they finish their undergraduate programme at their Valedictory Ceremony. This is done so to motivate the younger aspirants (future graduate) to perform and do better, to aspire and enhance their potential and to become better as they stive for their goals.
(i) All University toppers shall be given a certificate and laptop for their outstanding performance and for achieving the university topper position in their respective course.
(ii) Students who have not achieved the topper position yet still managed to pull through to secure a position among the University Rank Holder lists in their respective courses shall be given a certificate and a cash reward of ₹ 5000 for their outstanding performance.
(iii) Proficiency Award: This award is an institutional award. This award is granted to students who are at the top of their respective classes at the institution.
3. POST MATRIC SCHOLARSHIP SCHEME:
The Post Matric Scholarship is a scheme under the Mizoram Scholarship Board under the government of Mizoram. The objective of the scheme is to provide financial assistance to students belonging to Scheduled Tribes pursuing post-Matriculation recognized courses in recognized institutions. The scheme covers professional/ technical as well as non-professional and non-technical courses at various levels and also correspondence courses including distance and continuing education. The scheme is 90:10 funding from by the Ministry of Tribal Affairs and Mizoram state.
Eligibility:
a) Parents/Guardians’ income from all sources should not exceed Rs. 2,50,000/- (Rs. Two lakh Fifty Thousand only) per annum.
b) Candidates must belong to Scheduled Tribes.
c) Permanently settled in Mizoram State.
d) Studying Class XI upto Post-Doctoral Fellowship.
Requirement of documents:
a) Aadhaar Card.
b) Bank Account (self-account).
c) Income certificate issued by competent authority (up to date).
d) Previous year mark sheet.
e) Permanent Residential Certificate (up to date).
f) Tribal Certificate.

Process of Application:
a) All government scholarships should be routed through the office of the Principal.
b) The office of the principal, the Administrative Assistant/Section incharge of the Scholarship in the college is responsible for informing the students directly through the official medium of communication.
c) It is the responsibility of the students to know about the Scholarship and apply before the deadline and satisfy the eligibility criteria.
d) Students must provide all documents required as requested by the office in time.
e) The college office should forward the applications to the government agencies before the stipulated time.
f) The college office shall confirm and verify all applications to ensure whether the student have satisfied all the criteria or not.
