DEPARTMENTAL ACTIVITIES:
I. Orientation: The department usually makes use of the first two/three days as orientation programme. The orientation is more than mere introduction it was designed to orient our students to get acquainted for the upcoming academic new session. For this orientation programme the department has assigned the teacher in-charge to each semester with specific topics where students were given an overview of curriculum and co-curriculum activities as well as rules and regulation related to filed work practicum.
II. Rural Camp: Rural Camp for the 3rd Semester in this year was held from 9th Sept to 16thSeptember, 2019 at Zotuitlang village. Zotuitlang is located towards the northern part of Lunglei district; it is about 30 kms away from Lunglei. Students learnt to work with community leaders to understand the socio-economic and political administration of the community.
III. Observation Visit: Observation visit is mandatory for the fresh students to get acquainted with practical setting before the start of academic session. Students have to go at least three days visit to different setting within the town area. For this session, Sub- Head Quarters YMA, MHIP, Grace Society, BCM main Office, BCO and Wadha Centre were selected for the purpose of observation visit.
IV. Block Placement: Mandatorily it is organized for every 5th semester student as part of field practicum and expose themselves to the agency of their choice in outside of Lunglei District. This time, it was organized during 28th January to 14th February 2020. Total number of 20 students were placed in various settings in different districts such as District Child Protection Unit Champhai, CodNerc Aizawl, Blind School Kolasib, District Child Protection Unit Siaha, LiFCoDe Aizawl, Dept. of Psychiatry Civil Hospital Serchhip and District Child Protection Unit Lawngtlai.
V. Semester Wise Practical Fieldwork: Field Work is an integral part of our subject and this year too our students were sent to various practical settings such as Agency, Community, Government agency and block placement. As per syllabus student of BSW has to complete 11 visits in each semester. First semester students are placed in NGO’s setting, second semester are assigned to conduct Case-Study III Semester students are sent to Government offices while fourth semester happened to be conduct field work practical in the community, the fifth and six semester students therefore, required to conduct mini-research on the topic of their choice and Block placement respectively.
