Since the inception of HATIM College, human values education has been taught to the students for the growth of their moral and spiritual life. The class was taken by any one of the teachers once a week. However, since the year 2016, the BCM appointed a full-time Chaplain in the institution to teach holistic development through human values teaching.
Human Values Education classes have been taken thrice every week (i.e. Monday, Tuesday, and Friday) to different classes at the chapel. The I and II Semester students are taught Human Values provided by the All India Association for Christian Higher Education (AIACHE) which aims to shape the students to have Integrity, Love, Respect, Compassion, Kindness, Truthfulness, Self-Esteem, Stewardship, etc., in different areas of their life. Because of the introduction of NEP, class is taken to only BCA and few courses are added to the Value Added Course. The III&IV semester students study The Purpose Driven Life by Rick Warren which teaches the students to find purpose in life, the reason for their existence here on Earth and to live their life with focus, dreams, and vision, and most importantly know God’s purpose in their life. The V & VI semesters study Issues Facing Christians Today by John Stott which deals with contemporary issues such as Church and politics, Christian marriage, HIV/AIDS, Abortion and Euthanasia, same-sex relationships etc., and how to respond to them and assessment system is made for students. Besides this, Counseling Class was provided whenever there is a necessity from the students.
Human Values Education's main aim is to impart to the hearts and minds of the students and helping them in dealing with various challenges they face in life. It is a good opportunity for the students to be exposed to the knowledge besides their normal course of study and it is the uniqueness of this College. It is our prayer and vision that our society will in the future be changed by students who are equipped with the holistic development through human values teaching.
