It gives me immense pleasure to mention that the Department of English has completed 13 years with 15 students in the present graduating class. As per the UGC mandated on Mizoram University, the current batch of 2023 admissions has joined the NEP 2020 Syllabus. So currently, we have a batch of students studying the NEP syllabus as well as the remaining senior batches studying the previous Choice Based Credit System (CBCS) syllabus/course.
There are 6 faculty members in the Department of English with 2 part-time Faculty.

It has been a blessing that Miss Vanlalpekhlui secured the 4th position at the MZU UG End-Semester Examinations held on May 2023.
DEPARTMENTAL ACTIVITIES:
1. FELICITATION PROGRAMME CUM TOPPER’S TALK:
A departmental programme was held to honor and felicitate Vanlalpekhlui for securing the 4th position at the MZU UG End Semester Examinations 2023. On the 13th of July, 2023, all students of the department and the faculty came together to felicitate Vanlalpekhlui and also for Topper’s Talk. The Department also congratulated the topper with a citation and a cash award. There was also a hearty interaction between the students and Vanlalpekhlui after the talk.
2. ACADEMIC TALK SERIES:
The department has made it a priority to engage students in Academic Talks and environments. This academic year, two academic talks and departmental seminars had been held.
a) The first talk on “Career Opportunities in Corporate Industries” was held on the 31st of August 2023 through Google Meet and Youtube HATIM channel platform. Mr. Sagar Thacker, Senior Product Manager, Amazon.com, Dubai HQ was the Resource Person. A very lively round of interaction was held with our students.
b) On the 1st September, 2023, the second talk on “Rethinking Folklore: Concepts and Contexts” was held. The Resource person, Dr. Yanbeni Yanthan, Asst. Prof, Centre for Naga Language Studies, Nagaland University, gave a very engaging and interesting lecture which was followed by an interactive session where students get to ask stimulating and thought-provoking questions.
3. FACULTY STUDENT EXCHANGE PROGRAMME:
On the 18th and 19th October, 2023, The Department of English HATIM and the Department of English Govt. J Buana College held a Faculty Student programme. A Memorandum of Understanding was signed between the two colleges. A two-day programme - the first at JB College Campus and the second at HATIM campus was held where Classes and interactive sessions were held. The students of the two colleges interacted with each other while the faculty also had a productive time intermingling with each other.
4. PARENTS-TEACHERS MEETING:
Pursuing the resolution of the Academic Council, the Department of English was able to conduct a Parents-Teachers Meeting on the 16th of October, 2023. The meeting was chaired by HT Zuali, HOD and a departmental presentation was given by Samuel Malsawmkima. A fruitful and lively session was also held where parents were divided according to the student’s Mentorship group. Every parent had a chance to interact one-on-one with the Faculty Mentor where students’ progress and drawbacks are discussed with the mentor files in hand.
Apart from these activities, there are a few remaining activities for the academic year 2023-2024 which are not yet held by the time this report is written. The Department had a total of 7 Faculty Meetings during the year, which shows a strong sense of cooperation and solid commitment. The year had been fruitful.
